Epic songs of sadness or of love are the best kind,
Because they have a point;
The fact that they're relatable is a bonus,
Not the main draw.
Exquisite musicianship isn't in the complicated parts,
It's in letting the spaces speak;
Volume/tone/melody/tempo,
All serve to say what words alone never can.
The words can be personal, masked by generalities,
or universal, and plainly so;
The key is for truth to be involved,
Whether the writer's own, or someone else's.
